How to use the hours calculator
Enter your clock-in and clock-out times and any unpaid break in minutes. The calculator shows your total worked time in hours and minutes, the decimal-hours figure used on most timesheets, and — if you add your hourly rate — your estimated gross pay. Overnight shifts (where the end time is earlier than the start) are handled automatically.
Decimal hours explained
Payroll systems usually use decimal hours, where 30 minutes is 0.5 and 15 minutes is 0.25. The calculator gives both formats so you can copy whichever your timesheet needs.
Frequently asked questions
9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-min break — how many hours?
8.5 hours of clock time minus 0.5 break = 8 hours.
Does it handle night shifts?
Yes. If the end time is before the start time, it assumes the shift ran past midnight and adds 24 hours.
